SLAF jets, helicopter gunships launch successive attacks at LTTE positions

SLAF jets and MI-24 helicopter gunships have launched successive air raids at identified LTTE strong points located both in the Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts, today (Dec 15) since 8.30a.m.

According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, 3 aerial sorties were made in support of the advancing 57 and 59 division troops at the Wanni battlefronts. Two air raids were made at identified LTTE strongpoints located West of Kilinochchi in support of the advancing 57 Division troops, at 8.30a.m., and 9.30a.m., respectively the Spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, MI- 24 helicopter gunships have also continued with close combat ground support to the 59 Division troops now operating in the fringes of Mullaittivu. According to the Spokesperson, the precision air assaults were launched at an identified LTTE gathering point located 6km South of Mullaittivu.
