Army TF 1 thwarts LTTE counter attack- West of Paranthan

Sri Lanka Army Task Force 1 soldiers crushed an LTTE counter attack launched at their forward boundary south of Sinna Paranthan area this morning (Dec 24). According to battlefield sources, troops inflicted heavy damages to the terrorists.

The terrorists tried to regain their lost battlefield fortifications located about 6 km west of Paranthan on the Pooneryn- Paranthan road early this morning with a massive ground assault supported with artillery and mortar fire. However, well prepared troops engaged the advancing terrorists with armour tanks, artillery and infantry causing heavy damages to the terrorists.

According to the available information, at least 18 terrorists including an LTTE regional leader were killed while many others were injured. Intercepted terrorist radio transmissions have reveled that 34 LTTE cadres were wounded and 4 others went missing. So far , troops have been able to collect a body of an LTTE cadre while many others are still lying in front of their forward boundary.
